I had to save East Village Hats immediately on my favorites list.. I have an authentic Panama hat that got warped when it rained one day. I was devastated as it was not cheap and was hand made. I called East Village Hats and they told me to come in right away. Within 15 minutes after arriving the same day Julia had my hat looking brand new. Not only was she extremely good at her craft, she was kind and personable. I would highly recommend this shop for anyone interested in purchasing a beautiful hat or restoring one.

Great experience at this store today. I needed to change a hat band on a fedora hat. The owner whipped up a genius looking one in 20 minutes. I had to give her an hour. 20 minutes was way too fast for me 🙂 I had lunch and came back to a great looking hat. Also store has beautiful fur not seen from big corporate hat makers. I highly recommend serious hat aficionados to take a look here.

East Village Hats is my favorite place to find new hats and headpieces for all seasons and occasions. In one little shop, I can find cute fascinators for summer parties or wild nightlife looks, I can get proper sun hats in femme and traditionally male styles (I love a Panama or Fedora), as well as fall and winter hats of all persuasions. Everything is hand-crafted and East Village Hats a woman-owned and operated business! Plus, they can make you whatever you need if you're feeling custom. The BEST.

I walked in to get my hat adjusted and I slipped up and said "hat fitting". The employee told me she didn’t know what that was with a rude tone. I let it slide. We talked about getting my hat adjusted. I had this foam padding on the side to my hat so it would fit. She talked down to me for having it the wrong way. She explained how she would adjust my hat. After she told me I tried to explain it back to her to assure we were on the same page. I must’ve gotten it wrong because she replied with "well if you listened to me properly…". I’ve never been inclined to write a review besides now. After talking to the same lady on the phone beforehand and now in person I won’t be giving them my business. If you’re a small business I feel like it’s a necessity to provide decent customer services but I see that’s gone out the window. If you’re close enough I would go to JJ Hat Center instead. I went there right after and the employees could not of been more helpful.The employee at EV Hats was very condescending and unprofessional the whole time.

I wrote the below 4 years ago. In the intervening years I've become a regular & purchased more hats than I can count. I especially love the tricorne I commissioned. Thank you, Julia! My favourite hat shop in the city. Handmade gorgeous hats in a wide variety of styles with frequent guest exhibits from milliners from all over the world.

I have been visiting this store (over 20 years?) I love their asymmetrical fedoras and their creative cloche hats. They will also ship and give advice to those of us who live in other places but love handcrafted hats. Truly a treasure!
