Maryland Therapeutic Riding

This place is a scam. Everything they advertise is false. You and your special needs child are required to sit through a lengthy orientation in hopes that your child will be given a chance to volunteer in the barn. However, you, the parent, are required to work along side your child if you expect them to ever step foot in the barn. This place is not teaching anything to the special needs population. They’re using their photos for donations and clout. Don’t waste your time.

Having had some interactions over the years with MTR, I can this is truly a wonderful place. The care the staff shows the riders, in addition to the quality of the staff themselves, makes this one of Crownsville's jewels. Having attended a Derby Day fundraiser as well, this place knows how to let their hair down as well. A+

My son has been riding here on and off for 12 years. He loves it! The people are very nice here and so are the horses! It's so pretty too, like an oasis in the desert. I can relax a bit, for once, while my son is in good hands for an hour, although I usually follow them around.

I volunteered here for about a year working to clean stables and do horse care and it was a lovely place. Would recommend for high schoolers/people looking for service hours. All the horses were wonderful and i got along well with every supervisor and volunteer i met. You know, except for the desk supervisor (a woman I’d never even met) who decided to arbitrarily falsify accusations of horse mishandling/insubordination against me, a 14 YEAR OLD GIRL at the time, dismiss me on these claims via ONE EMAIL with no prior warnings, and then lie to my parents’ faces when we appealed and asked for specific claims.

I wish I could give this company 0 stars. I am extremely disappointed with the lack of communication from Maryland Therapeutic Riding (MTR). A year and a half ago, MTR received a full payment for my child's therapy from LISS. However, we have yet to receive any services, and the communication from the company has been terrible. My last email to them, sent months ago, has gone unanswered. Although I have been assured that the services won't expire, the lack of communication makes me feel that our LISS funds have been taken without any intention of providing the promised therapy. I am deeply disappointed and feel taken advantage of. I urge others to think twice before using this company and definitely avoid paying in full upfront.

Very nice facility. Well worth your time as a volunteer or a place to donate some spare funds.

I love this place. I started riding here after a major accident in 2002, when the doctors said I'd never ride again. My two older boys have ADHD and anxiety and depression and had their first experiences with riding here whilst their lil' sis became fascinated and, though we've moved away, will begin riding this summer because of the love that sparked at MTR. We❤🐎's
