Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue

A loving sanctuary for horses and donkeys, some adoptable, some permanent. Given the best care, these beautiful animals return your love 100-fold and clearly sense they're safe and valued. Volunteering there is a privilege! It's a world apart where the stresses of human life don't exist. With cats, cows, pigs, chickens and turkeys, it's a menagerie where the movement of sun and seasons guide the rhythms of life.

Some of the most compassionate people donate time and money to care for these abused and abandoned animals. Their care and dedication is testament to the preservation of these horses.

It is an amazing rescue with phenomenal volunteers and owner who take great care of the animals that live there.

Several years ago my daughter and I volunteered for a day as a school project. The facility was in bad shape and filthy! The ladies were very rude to us and didnt really want to talk about the rescue or the horses. We were just there to clean stalls(which was fine). It would have been a great opportunity for them to explain the rescue, talk about how the horses came to be there and being a non-profit as my teen was presenting a report on her experience. I know its been a while but I see this organization begging for donation and pray they realize their treatment of a one time volunteer could be the difference between a regular volunteer or monthly donation in the future.

I feel sorry for the animals. They have to many horse for the size of the rescue. Someone needs to go and check this facility out and fix this problem. It's sad for the horses not to ever have a chance to be adopted. If the rescue doesn't have time to work with the horses them to call it a rescue!!!
